Abstract
One of the main challenges during the formation of the Islamic state in Medina was the existence of a powerful cultural, religious, and value-based movement of the People of the Book in this city and its surrounding areas. This movement, which saw the presence of the nascent Islamic culture as a factor in weakening its own beliefs and reducing its social influence, launched a widespread propaganda and cultural offensive against it. The central question of this research is what strategies did the Holy Quran use to counter this cultural offensive? This article, which is derived from a doctoral dissertation, specifically examines one of the four major strategies extracted in that research. Using the descriptive-analytical method and citing the verses of the Quran and the views of prominent Shiite and Sunni commentators, the strategy of “giving an identity to the faith community” and its implementation strategies have been analyzed. The examination of the other three strategies ("Confronting the agents of weakening values", "Strengthening values", and "Educating and strengthening believers") has been postponed to other articles.
